The law enforcement veteran and founder of InVest USA discusses a new report that explains just how far the FBI went for its own style of justice.
As if the FBI weren’t already in enough trouble with whistleblower reports, a new filing by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) revealed some rather disturbing numbers right before the weekend.
Per its report, the FBI improperly used warrantless search powers against citizens of the United States a staggering 278,000 times back in 2021. This included using searches to find information on people involved with the January 6th insurrection, George Floyd protestors, and donating to a failed Congressional candidate.
An FBI rep told Fox News, “As Director Wray has made clear, the errors described in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court’s opinion are completely unacceptable,” a senior FBI official told Fox News Friday. “As a result of the audits that revealed these instances of noncompliance, the FBI changed its querying procedures to make sure these errors do not happen again. These steps have led to significant improvement in the way we conduct queries of lawfully obtained Section 702 information.”
Bus it this really the case? Did they change their ways following what happened in 2021 – especially following what took place at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate last year?
Joining us now to discuss this further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO for InVest USA, a group that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable foundations and sponsorships. His expertise will prove very useful in this matter.
Q&A:
- Are you surprised by the number of warrantless searches that took place by the FBI back in 2021? And the fact that so many were carried out?
- What situations, if any, would call for a warrantless search? Or is there one that justifies one taking place?
- Do you think that the Judiciary Committee should add this report to its ongoing investigation against the FBI?
- What do you think about how the agency notes that it learned from its mistakes with these searches, only to conduct the full-scale invasion of the Mar-a-Lago estate just months later?
- Do you believe it’s time for director Christopher Wray to step down to make the FBI better? Or is more needed to ”right the ship,” as it were?
- You’re the creator of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. Tell us more about that, and why support for fellow officers is so important right now.
- Where can we learn more about InVest USA, and how those interested can help their fellow officers.
