Second Amendment Foundation encourages other states to look into the Governor’s moves towards Constitutional-Carry.
For months now, several politicians have been demanding states to allow Constitutional-Carry, in which selected citizens carry firearms to prevent active shooter events or other criminal acts. But Governor Ron DeSantis appears ready to move forward with making it a law for the state.
A report from TampaBay.com notes how DeSantis expects lawmakers to pass the Constitutional-Carry law during the 2023 regular legislative session in 2023. At the present time, citizens are allowed to carry firearms with licenses from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, but the law would end the need for a license.
“This was something that I’ve always supported,” DeSantis noted during an appearance last week in Lee County. “The last two years, it was not necessarily a priority for the legislative leadership. But we’ve been talking about it, and he’s (House Speaker Paul Renner) pledged publicly that’s moving forward, and it’ll be something that will be done in the regular session.”
The session is set to take place on March 7, and could possibly set precedents for other states to follow with their own Constitutional-Carry laws. Here now to speak about the matter is a representative for Second Amendment Foundation, a group that firmly believes in the right for every citizen to bear arms. Their expertise should be useful for this particular topic.
Q&A:
- What do you think motivated Gov. DeSantis to finally move forward with legalized Constitutional-Carry in 2023? Do you believe he’s simply fed up with how many active shooter events have taken place this year?
- What are the benefits to Constitutional-Carry compared to, say, President Joe Biden’s all-out call to ban “assault weapons”?
- You’ve been leading the fight in the courts fighting Constitutional-Carry laws. How is this going in the courts?
- Do you believe other states could follow suit with their own Constitutional-Carry laws moving into the new year? What states do you believe will follow? How do you think Biden and his administration will react?
- What argument would you have for someone that doesn’t think Constitutional-Carry is a good idea, possibly, in their words, “putting more guns on the street”?
