Senate Passes Military Spending, Will the Police Follow? (Guest: Michael Letts)

Law enforcement veteran Michael Letts is hopeful for what comes in the future, at a time when police officers need the support.

The U.S. Senate has provided a rather large present to military spending right before the holidays – and left hope that the police will see similar relief in the future.

The Epoch Times recently reported that the Senate has passed a military spending bill called the National Defense Authorization Act, which calls for the amount of $858 billion.

While there are many measures implemented into the bill, one of the big ones is the repeal of President Joe Biden’s controversial COVID-19 vaccine mandate for military service members.

Although there are some who opposed the bill, noting that certain elements “do not enhance military readiness,” this does seem to show that most of the Senate is on the same page when it comes to soldier support. That could lead to potential results for police in early 2023, as a current bill is making its way through the Senate to provide departments with much-needed funding.

Here to speak with us now about the success of this bill – and what could follow after – is Michael Letts. He is a law enforcement veteran with 30 years of experience under his belt. Currently, he serves as president, founder and CEO for InVest USA, an organization that provides police officers with bulletproof vests through various charitable groups and sponsorships. His expertise is most welcome with this subject.

Q&A:

  1. What does this military bill say to you, especially with its passing right before the holidays?
  2. With that, do you believe the current “fund the police” bill making its way through the Senate will finally see approval? Are you hopeful it will provide the benefits those officers need?
  3. There seem to be those, like (D-MO) Rep. Cori Bush, that are still anti-police, even as several cities see a vast increase in criminal activity. Why do you think they’re continuing to push against police officers?
  4. One interesting thing about the military bill is that one proposed amendment, which would have called for service members to be reinstated after being dismissed for refusing the vaccine, was turned down. Do you think soldiers – and, for that matter, police officers – deserve a second chance at doing their duty, even after refusing a mandated vaccine?
  5. How do you see things going for police officers in 2023? Could we see a turn-around in giving them the support they truly need? Or will they continue to face opposition?
  6. You’re the Founder, President, and CEO for InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. Tell us more about that, and why support for fellow officers is so important right now.
  7. We understand that InVest USA is also actively involved with Twitter. Where can interested parties learn more?
