Law enforcement veteran Michael Letts advises Gov. Newsom and his city officials to take action before it’s too late.
With crime increasing across a number of states, merchants in Oakland have seen enough and have made a plea to government to resolve the matter.
Per this report from The Epoch Times, hundreds of businesses in Oakland, California closed early (or shut down for the day), and their owners took to the streets to protest the increase in crime in their fair city. What’s more, they demanded something be done about it.
“Today, we want to collectively join together as one voice and make some demands,” Carl Chan, Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce president, said while leading the press conference. “Because we are all suffering. We need your help.”
The businesses are looking for some sort of support from their government to decrease the growing criminal activity, which consists to near-daily robberies and other incidents that go unpunished.
“Today, we want to focus on the solutions—what we can do to make positive changes,” Mr. Chan continued. “It’s not about division. It’s about unity. People don’t feel safe.”
While Gov. Newsom has been working on anti-gun initiatives, he has yet to budge on providing additional funding for police forces in his state. His concerns over the future – rather than what’s happening now – has various business owners (as well as citizens) up in arms.
Joining us now to discuss this further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers, through various charitable groups and sponsorships. His expertise will certainly be welcome in this matter.
Q&A:
- Why do you think so many city governments are slow moving in getting police forces funded again to bring crime down within their cities?
- Why are some politicians that believe that “defunding the police” was the right answer? Aren’t they aware of the effects that overcome cities like Portland and Seattle due to its effects?
- What do you think is the best approach in order to bring safety back to these cities? More police on the streets? Perhaps something else?
- Why do you think Gov. Newsom seems more concerned about the future of his state, rather than what’s happening in the present?
- If you were charge of a “fund the police” initiative, how would you go about pushing it forward?
- You’re the creator of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. Tell us more about that, and why support for fellow officers is so important right now.
- Tell us more about RestoringJustice.US, the new website where you help out citizens in need surrounding law matters.
- Where can we learn more about InVest USA, Restoring Justice and whatever else you’re working on?
- You can visit our official InVest USA website, and learn more on the official Invest USA Twitter account. You can also learn about our new initiative at RestoringJustice.US.
