The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses the recent withdrawal of troops from the Gaza Strip, and how Israel will move forward with negotiations.
After previously stating that he would push military forces to destroy Hamas in Rafah, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu now appears ready to negotiate – even with outside pressure from U.S. President Joe Biden.
Reports reveal that Israel military forces have withdrawn a number of ground troops from the Gaza Strip, after it had managed to eliminate some enemy forces from the southern city of Khan Younis.
This comes after Biden, amongst other world leaders, had pressured Netanyahu to decrease military numbers in the hopes of lowering civilian casualties. That said, several forces remain in place to keep Palestinians from returning to northern Gaza.
That said, it appears that a new set of talks are set to take place, with Israel and Hamas agreeing to attend. No doubt that the hostages being held by Hamas will be the primary focus for Israel. That said, Netanyahu is still concerned about the “extreme demands” they have in place.
Joining us now to discuss his actions is David Rubin, the former Mayor of Shiloh Israel and author, to discuss the matter further. Welcome, David!
Q&A:
- Did Israel agree to withdrawing troops due to pressure from leaders worldwide, or was it a decision made by Netanyahu on his own, you think?
- With this, do you believe leaders like President Biden will cut back their criticism of Netanyahu, or will they find something new to go after when it comes to his plan to free Rafah?
- How do you think the forthcoming talks between Israel and Hamas will go? Do you believe a deal will be made? Or will their fight pick right back up?
- Where do you see the war between Israel and Hamas going over the next few months? Could it possibly carry over into 2025?
- If Biden continues his criticism of Netanyahu, could that potentially have an effect on his pending Presidential re-election campaign?
