A representative for the Second Amendment Foundation discusses how the actions could come back to haunt the Governor.
Just as she did back in September when she attempted to implement ridiculous gun laws, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is at it again for 2024.
The Governor has introduced a new public safety legislative agenda that appears to go completely against the Second Amendment, with gun control proposals that include a 14-day background check waiting period on those that buy guns, prohibiting guns in polling places and parks, and a minimum age requirement of 21 years for purchasing semiautomatic firearms.
There is also a Firearm Industry Accountability Act, set to “amend the state statue (sic) to allow gun manufacturers to be held liable for deceptive trade practices.”
Many Republicans and gun groups have sounded off against Grisham’s ridiculous terms, with Sen. Greg Baca noting, “today’s press conference took a hyper-partisan turn with the announcement of several anti-2nd Amendment measures targeting New Mexico gun owners who only want to protect themselves and their families.”
Instead, Baca believes Grisham should “focus on giving tougher penalties to criminals, keeping criminals behind bars while supporting law enforcement and allowing them to do their job.”
A representative for the Second Amendment Foundation joins us now to discuss these new rules.
Q&A:
- Would it appear that Grisham learned absolutely nothing from her attempts back in September to defy the Second Amendment?
- What do you think is driving her to introduce all these new initiatives for 2024? Do they make any logical sense whatsoever?
- Do you believe Republicans will be successful in knocking down a number of these restrictions? If so, do you believe Grisham could possibly create new ones?
- Where do you see gun control playing a part in the forthcoming 2024 Presidential Election?
- Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation?
