The law enforcement veteran ponders whether the Presidential nominee would help the officers in blue, or leave them hanging like Joe Biden has.
It’s been a whirlwind since President Joe Biden announced he would not be seeking re-election this year, instead turning the nomination reigns over to his Vice President, Kamala Harris. But several questions have arisen in regards to what Harris would do if elected.
And one of those questions involves police funding.
Budgets for police have been heavily slashed since 2020, following the death of George Floyd. Thousands have protested for governments to “defund the police,” to which many have complied. Since then, thousands of officers have left the beat, and several offices have run into trouble recruiting new ones. Some have even shut down completely as a result.
Biden initially backed the “defund the police” campaign, but changed his tune shortly thereafter following backlash from his fanbase. He noted that the police should “absolutely” be funded. However, he has since to push any kind of bill to his fellow Democrats to make it happen.
With Harris set to push for a Presidential bid, many are wondering if she’ll come through with a funding bill, or follow in the footsteps of Biden in terms of getting nothing done.
Joining us now to discuss this further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various programs.
