With His Ignorance Surrounding the Deaths of Police Officers and Innocent People, L.A. District Attorney George Gascon Is Becoming a Threat To His City (Guest: Michael Letts)

The policies of Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon have certainly rubbed a lot of people in the city the wrong way – and with good reason.

Earlier this week, Justin Flores allegedly killed two police officers before being gunned down himself. Flores had recently been jailed on gun charges stemming from 2020, but was recently put on probation based on Gascon’s policies.

The families of the two officers have voiced their complaints about Gascon’s policies, believing their lost members would still be alive with better policies in place. Gascon, however, voiced little to no sympathy during a recent virtual town hall. “(The suspect) was on bail for months and could have committed a violent act for a month. We don’t have a crystal ball.”

Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Jon Hatami isn’t resting easy on Gascon’s lack of action. In a recent tweet, he noted, “George Gascon says he cares about gun violence. Actions speak louder than words! He refuses to fully charge and prosecute existing gun cases. Felon in poss(ession) of a firearm with a prior strike – no prison, no accountability and no public safety.” (Hatami is currently leading a potential recall for Gascon, with enough signatures to get the measure on the ballot.)

Here now to speak on Gascon’s policies – and their lack of effectiveness – is Michael Letts. Letts serves as CEO and founder of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers across the country, through various charitable foundations and sponsorships. He is also a pro-police representative, so his thoughts on the matter will provide a great deal of weight here.

Q&A:

  1. First off, why do you think Gascon is being so lenient towards criminals with his policies? Clearly something must be off when he won’t even consider revising them.
  2. What do you think about his “crystal ball” comment during a recent virtual Town Hall meeting? It seems a bit concerning that he’s not taking more responsibility, considering his policies are involved.
  3. Do you think some higher-ups try to benefit from trying to be right all the time? Or do they simply believe their policies are so effective that they don’t need change?
  4. Is criminal history easy for some in law offices to overlook? Is it just a matter of ignorance or trying to move on to “bigger things” in their career, do you think?
  5. There’s word that Deputy District Attorney Jon Hatami is working on a potential recall for Gascon. Do you think this will “wake him up” to finally do something with his policies? Or is it just “business as usual” until the recall possibly takes place?
  6. How heartbreaking is it to lose officers in the line of duty like this? We can’t imagine what their families are feeling right now.
  7. Where can we learn more about InVest USA?
