CHARLOTTE, NC (June 17, 2020)– In a quest to fill the need for childcare service in homes of parents returning to work, Home Rule, a home care nursing company is launching a new Home Rule Childcare division in all 50 states on the first day of summer, June 20, 2020.

But this post-COVID startup is different than virtually all other childcare companies in 3 significant ways:

  1. Children are watched in their own homes instead of in a close-contact daycare facility, packed full of kids.
  2. Instead of following the typical path of merely providing a database of freelance sitters their company executives never even met, Home Rule hires, trains, and oversees employees they place in homes.
  3. All Home Rule workers are actual W-2 employees, not 1099 gig freelancers used by firms such as Uber. The difference is that 1099 employees cannot be directed by the companies they work for since they are not employees.

How Important is it to Know Your Childcare worker?

When asked why she takes the old-fashioned employment route for her team, Home Rule CEO Christy McGlothlin answers the question with a question, “Would you hire a stranger off the street to babysit your child? Those databases you are familiar with, yes, you know the ones, are often comprised of people who have not been screened, referenced, interviewed, trained, or held accountable for their work.”

As a mother of seven children including a special needs child, Christy McGlothlin adds a sharp quip, “Choosing your nanny or babysitter should not resemble an online dating site. The process of contacting complete strangers, many of whom appear unprofessional and do not reply, is frustrating and disconcerting when you are looking for a child caregiver whose job it is to nurture your most valuable possessions in your life. Home Rule shares that passion and will work in tandem with you to provide the best ongoing childcare we possibly can for your family.”

Home Rule offers experienced caregivers for parents to select from for full-time, part time, or intermittent care. Their timing could hardly be better or more needed as many schools, after school care, summer care and childcare facilities are still closed or operating with limited hours.

By law, a babysitter or nanny is required to be an employee, not an individual or a 1099 subcontractor, if they are paid $2,200 or more in a calendar year. Home Rule takes care of those details, so parents don’t have to.

Christy McGlothlin poses 4 key questions to anyone in need of a nanny or sitter:

1. What would happen if your neighborhood sitter were injured in your home or broke something valuable, or stole something? You would be liable. We fully INSURE all our employees so we can provide services to you safely. Whew! That’s a load off your back!

2. Would you knowingly hire a sex offender or drug addict to care for your children? How can you be sure you didn’t just hire one? We carefully, thoroughly, personally SCREEN our caregivers we send to work with your children through:

3. How important is it for your child’s caregiver to be trained and certified? Every one of our child caregivers undergoes thorough training and testing in each aspect of safe and excellent child caregivers. Our child caregivers are all certified in CPR and First Aid.

4. Is it important to have a caregiving plan for your child? We CREATE a Service Plan. Our caregivers follow a service plan we develop with you to meet your goals and fit your daily schedule. You can view your caregiver’s notes daily in your HIPAA-compliant online folder, fostering more connection to your child’s daily achievements, activities, and adventures.

Michelle O’Toole, Administrator of Home Rule Child Care, said, “It is our privilege to be able to support today’s families by providing them with compassionate and skilled child caregivers who truly love what they do. Our core values of impact, integrity, growth, compassion, and excellence guide everything we do. We hope that we benefit not only children and parents, but also the communities in which they live.”
