TOPIC: CAN WE PREVENT MASS SHOOTINGS IN THE FUTURE?  (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

Just days after a tragic shooting in a Buffalo supermarket, another terrifying incident has taken place, this time at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

Two days before the beginning of summer break, an 18-year-old armed with a pistol and rifle walked into the school, opening fire, killing 18 students and a teacher. The suspect, who killed his grandmother earlier, was killed after attempting to fire upon enforcement officers, hitting two but leaving them with minor injuries.

Nearly ten years since the Sandy Hook shooting left 26 people dead, including 20 children between six and seven years old, many people ask, “When will these mass shootings stop?”

Speaking with us about this situation now is Stephen Willeford. Stephen is a spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may recall in 2017 how he helped stop the Sutherland Springs, Texas shooter, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is certainly welcome in this matter.

Stephen Willeford, Spokesperson for Gun Owners of America -Talking Points:

  • Do you believe ‘Constitutional Carry’ is the answer to prevent further mass shootings in the United States. How effective do you believe this will be in the long run?
  • Are there any warning signs that people should watch for when it comes to shooters of this nature?
  • How effective would a gun ban be, in your opinion? It seems that these young men had no trouble getting their hands on modified rifles and, in some cases, body armor.
  • In the Sutherland Springs, Texas, shooting, you heard the gunshots from the church and ran out of your house barefoot with your gun. You yelled out and saw the shooter exit the church and pulled the trigger trying to stop him – what went through your mind at that moment? How did you have the courage to pull the trigger?
  • What advice would you give to those who find themselves in a harrowing situation such as this?
  • Gun ownership is continuing to break records, with more than 5 million adults becoming first-time gun owners between Jan. 2020 and April 2021 – that is more than double from 2019 statistics. Training is the key to protecting your private property and family whether an armed intruder entering your home to an active shooter situation in public.
    • “Your body cannot go where your mind has never been.” Stephen Willeford – training is the key.
    • March 2022 gun sales increased over February 2022
    • April 2022 statistics
  • What kind of training do you recommend for people seeking to buy a firearm to protect themselves, their families, and their communities?
  • Where can we learn more about you and your current work with the Gun Owners of America? Answer: My official website is http://www.stephenwilleford.com. You can read more about the Gun Owners of America at https://www.gunowners.org/.
