There Seems To Be a Great Deal of Confusion Surrounding Biden’s Proposed Cease-Fire In Israel (Guest: David Rubin)

The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses the proposal, and why there appears to be mixed messages surrounding its acceptance.

This past weekend, President Joe Biden and his Administration put together a potential deal to bring an end to the war in Gaza. However, even with Israel’s mild acceptance of the deal, it doesn’t look like Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is fully on board, noting that it was “not a good deal.”

Netanyahu is facing a great deal of pressure from all sides to end the war against Hamas, particularly after a devastating number of strikes that have left hundreds dead. Many countries are pushing him to accept a cease-fire, along with families of the hostages being held. And, of course, Biden.

But Netanyahu stands strong in his belief that the deal Biden had been discussing is only partial. “Israel has not changed its conditions to reach a permanent cease-fire,” an official noted. “That will only happen after our objectives are met including destroying Hamas’ military and governing capabilities.”

The official continued to note the flaws with Biden’s proposed offer. “It’s strange that they say it’s an Israeli proposal and, at the same time, that Israel needs to agree to it.”

Meanwhile, John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council, fired back. “The Israeli foreign minister himself acknowledged that this was the Israeli proposal.”

So the real question is if common ground can be reached on a proposal, or if Israel will continue to push forward in its fight against Hamas.

Joining us now to discuss this further is David Rubin, former Mayor of Shiloh and founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. His first-hand knowledge of what’s happening in Israel make him a perfect guest for this show. Welcome, David!
