The White House Hasn’t Said a Word About Resurfaced Anti-Police Social Media Posts – And It Should Be

Law enforcement veteran Michael Letts wonders why President Biden and his administration have strangely gone silent over the controversial posts.

Right before the weekend, Fox News Digital had noticed several social media posts made in the past by Tyler Cherry, the Department of the Interior’s principal deputy communications director and senior spokesman. But these just aren’t any posts talking about the weather – they demoralize police and, worse yet, boost the message of “Russiagate.”

Back in 2015, Cherry had noted, “Praying for #Baltimore, but praying even harder for an end to a capitalistic police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial biases.” In a separate posts months later, he added, “Apt (sic.) time to recall that the modern day police system is a direct evolution of slave patrols and lynch mobs.”

What’s more, the posts appear to still be up, along with others that compare police to “slave patrols” and a critical response to Bill O’ Reilly’s statement regarding “no substantial white power movement in this country.” (To which Cherry simply responded, “WRONG.”)

Other posts that followed included noting the “intensity of Russiagate is all-consuming,” and “At this point, how is everyone in the White House (Pence included) *not* complicit in the Russia scandal?,”

What’s ultimately concerning, however, isn’t the posts themselves, but the White House’s dry response to the posts. “No one should be targeted simply for being themselves. It is cruel and unacceptable,” a White House spokesperson told The Advocate right before the weekend. “This is an administration that believes to our core in the principle that out of many we are one — and we are proud that the people who serve in it reflect those values as well.”

But in a day and age when many are being held accountable for their social media presence, why isn’t Cherry?

Joining us now to address the matter further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. His expertise should prove helpful in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. Should someone be held accountable for social media posts that they had made in the past – especially if those posts are still showing up on their accounts?
  2. What if someone had deleted the posts and addressed them with an apology, and indicated they had moved on? Would that be acceptable, or would they still need to answer for their actions?
  3. How concerning is it that Cherry made the anti-police statements he did, and yet somehow still wound up getting a job with the White House years later? Did no one in administrative feel the need to check this sort of thing?
  4. How vital is it for someone to check through social media posts to hire someone in government? Or, at the very least, the police?
  5. As for the White House’s response, do you believe that it is “cruel and unacceptable” to simply take ownership in controversial and hate-mongering statements like the ones Cherry made? What sort of administrative action should he face, if you were in charge of the matter?
  6. Have people become too judgmental of social media lately? Or do you believe the harshness is deserved in some cases?
  7. You’re the creator of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. Tell us more about that, and why support for fellow officers is so important right now.
  8. Tell us more about RestoringJustice.US, the new website where you help out citizens in need surrounding law matters.
  9. Where can we learn more about InVest USA, Restoring Justice and whatever else you’re working on?
    1. You can visit our official InVest USA website, and learn more on the official Invest USA Twitter account. You can also learn about our new initiative at RestoringJustice.US.
