The White House Appears to Be Wary of the New Israeli Government (Guest: David Rubin)

Former Shiloh mayor David Rubin explains his concern for what President Biden and his administration may be doing with their approach.

new report from Axios revealed that, following elections that took place last month, the White House recently held a high-level meeting in an effort to figure out how it wants to approach the new Israeli government. And, for that matter, how it may not be interested in dealing with certain ultranationalist ministers.

Following the elections, a report from the U.S. Congressional Research Service noted that a potential rise in the Religious Zionism faction within the potential Netanyahu coalition has created a debate “about the implications for Israel’s democracy, its ability to manage tensions with Arabs and Palestinians, and its relations with the United States and other countries.”

As a result, the White House National Security Council “deputies committee” discussed how they will engage with the new government, as well as its ministers, whom they perceive as far-right. While not finalized just yet, there’s a good chance that President Joe Biden will not likely deal directly with Ben-Gvir or Smotrich.

During a recent interview with the Israeli army radio, ambassador Tom Nides noted, “We are going to work with Prime Minister Netanyahu.”

This brings up some interesting questions in regards to the relations between the United States and Israel as a result. Here to discuss this further is the former Mayor of Shiloh, David Rubin, who is also the author of seven books and founder of Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. His expertise should prove quite useful in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. Why is the Biden administration sending warnings to Israel about its new government-in-formation? Could this be seen as interfering in the affairs of a foreign nation?
  2. Who are the new government ministers Betzalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir and why is Antony Blinken so concerned about them? Do you believe the Biden administration’s concerns about them are justified?
  3. What changes can be expected from this new Israel government? Could there be any concerns that come from this?
  4. Where do you see relations between the United States and Israel going as a result of this? Could there be even further mistrust based on this “emergency meeting” held by the Biden administration and top officials?
  5. Where can we learn more about you and your work with Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund for the terror victim children in Israel?
