The Supreme Court Continues To Stand By Gun Owners By Overturning Appeals Courts In Four States (Guest: Second Amendment)

Following its ruling last week that Americans have a right to carry firearms in public for self-defense, the Supreme Court continued to make moves for gun owners with new decisions right before the weekend.

The Court reversed federal appeals court decisions which upheld gun restrictions in place for four key states – California, Maryland, New Jersey, and Hawaii. As a result, the four cases will now have to sit in lower courts “for further consideration in light of” its original decision from last week.

In the original ruling last week, Justice Clarence Thomas noted, “After all, the Second Amendment guarantees an ‘individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation,’ and confrontation can surely take place outside the home. Many Americans hazard greater danger outside the home than in it.”

As a result, these states may apply certain rules to carrying guns, just as New York’s Democrats are currently attempting to do. However, there’s no word on what these states are doing just yet.

Here to provide some weight on the subject is a spokesperson for the 2nd Amendment Foundation, a group that believes every American has the right to bear arms as needed.

Q&A:

  1. How big a win would you say the Supreme Court’s decision and appeals reversal is for gun carriers?
  2. Should there be any concern for backlash from politicians that oppose the ruling, such as the New York Democrats trying to put certain laws into effect?
  3. Do you believe this will play a part in cutting down the large number of mass shootings that we’ve seen as of late?
  4. What other gun-related issues would you like to see the Supreme Court revisit in the months ahead? Or do you feel they’ve done enough with their recent decisions?
  5. Where do you see the process of open and concealed carry going in the years ahead?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation and its members?
