President Donald Trump has announced a push for national right-to-carry legislation for gun owners across the United States.
At this point in time, over half of the United States allows for some form of Constitutional-Carry or open-carry licenses – but with so many states still putting ridiculous gun laws and bans in place, Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford believes there’s still work to be done.
- President Donald Trump has acknowledged that he is currently working on adopting some form of Mike Lee’s National Constitutional Carry Act for the United States.
- Passing such an Act would allow licensed gun owners to open-carry or Constitutional-Carry.
- Some Democrats are likely to question the Act, along with state governments that currently have various anti-gun laws in place.
President Donald Trump believes the same. Yesterday, during a stop in Pennsylvania, he proclaimed that his administration is “working on” national right-to-carry legislation, which would be a huge victory for those that believe in the right to bear arms.
This comes just months after Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) introduced the National Constitutional Carry Act, which would do away with any sort of concealed-carry permit requirements nationwide for those that are eligible.
“The Founders established a national right to keep and bear arms, not to ask for permission from hostile local officials or risk imprisonment for crossing the wrong state line,” Lee noted at the time of the Act’s introduction.
But now comes the hard part – getting such an act to pass through Congress and the House. While many Republicans would approve of such a plan to allow licensed civilians to carry firearms, many Democrats would believe otherwise. Not to mention convincing state governments such as Colorado to adapt to such a policy, especially considering the stern anti-gun laws they currently have in place.
Willeford, who was the 2017 “hero with a gun” in an event taking place in Sutherland Springs, joins us now to discuss the situation further. We welcome him to the show!
