Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford explains why this is a good move forward.
President Joe Biden previously tried to “stick it” to private gun owners by attempting to strengthen regulations on firearms with stabilizing braces. However, the House Judiciary Committee isn’t having any of it.
The Committee moved forward on a joint resolution yesterday, which would be a blow not only to Biden, but also the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
By advancing on the resolution, House Republicans are making it crystal clear that the regulation is overreaching, and could very well criminalize gun owners, even though an overwhelming majority are law-abiding citizens.
To further provide weight to their argument, Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie explained that the braces were initially introduced to help those with disabilities. “It’s a plastic accessory. This thing can’t shoot a bullet. It doesn’t function like a gun. It is a plastic accessory.”
That said, Biden likely isn’t done with the measure just yet, considering he’s pushing very hard to keep the rule in place, especially following a recent shooting at a private school in Nashville. But, again, private gun owners see the rule as pointless, considering gun braces aren’t that dangerous.
With us now to discuss this further is Stephen Willeford, the spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is welcome in this matter.
Q&A:
- Why do you believe Biden and the ATF are pushing so hard to keep the brace regulation in place when they don’t even cause any notable harm?
- Does Biden have a grudge against gun-owning citizens? Or is this merely his idea of trying to control the ongoing “active shooter” events taking place in this country?
- Do you believe Biden and the ATF merely put the rule in place in an effort to push towards gun control, without actually banning the weapons themselves?
- Can you tell us more specifically how a gun brace can actually assist, or what purpose it would serve gun owners?
- What do you believe Biden’s next move will be with this measure? Will he try and stop the opposition and keep the ATF’s rule intact? Or will he have to essentially swallow his pride and allow it to be overturned?
- Tell us more about your “hero with a gun” incident in 2017, and the importance of being ready against an “active shooter.”
- Where can we learn more about you, as well as Gun Owners of America?
