The author and founder of the Genesis 123 Foundation explains why Hamas must be held accountable for their horrifying actions
In Israel’s war against Hamas the past two months, much has been said about the macro situation in terms of casualties, communities destroyed, people displaced, and more. It can be easy to miss what’s taken place with individuals, the personal experiences and horrors, specifically Israeli women and female soldiers.
During a sidebar event at the United Nations this week, Israeli reservist Shari Mendes told the UN about s sexual atrocities and murders committed by Hamas against Israel women, “Our team commander saw several female soldiers who were shot in the crotch – intimate parts/vagina – or shot in the breast. This seemed to be a systematic genital mutilation of a group of victims,” referring to the October 7 massacre by Hamas that included brutal rape, leaving crashed pelvises, with reports of Hamas members playing with the breasts of women who they just raped and murders.
But even with her presentation, titled “Hear Our Voices: Sexual and gender-based violence in the October 7 Hamas terror attack,” very little has been done about the matter.
Finally, after two months, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN Women condemned the attacks this week, with the calling for executive director Sima Bahaus to resign. “We are alarmed by the numerous accounts of gender-based atrocities and sexual violence during those attacks,” they noted.
So the question is…will the UN finally listen, will the world care about sexual violence against Israeli women, or will they continue to sweep the situation “under the rug,” so to speak? Joining us to discuss this further is Jonathan Feldstein, author and founder of the Genesis 123 Foundation. His expertise in what’s happening in Israel makes him an ideal topic for this discussion.
