The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Calls Out Everytown for Gun Safety’s New “Study”

A representative for the group breaks down the bogus claims, pointing at California’s rise in crime following the placement of strict gun laws.

Some people believe that strict gun laws mean a safer future for America. But that isn’t necessarily the case.

A “study” produced by Everytown for Gun Safety noted that 298,000 lives could be saved if all states adopted strict gun control policies. However, it based most of its study in California, which has actually seen an increase in “active shooter” incidents, even with these strict gun laws in place.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms called out the group for this “study”, referring it to “misleading at best.”

Alan Gottlieb, Chairman for the group, noted, “While Everytown says California is the top state for so-called ‘gun safety policies,’ the homicide body count tells a different story,”  he noted. “Based on 2022 data, the most recent year for which statistics are available, California reported the most murders of any state in the nation. In second and third place for this year are New York and Illinois, which simply defies logic.”

Gottlieb added, “One of the signals this is bogus research is the way Everytown graded Washington State, where the Citizens Committee is headquartered. Washington is position ninth on the list, and is described as ‘making progress.’ The state has adopted increasingly restrictive gun laws in recent years, and the number of homicides has more than doubled since 2014, according to FBI data and statistics from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. Seattle just set a new homicide record in 2023. If that’s what Everytown calls ‘making progress,’ we would be better off going back to living in caves.

“The only conclusion one can draw is that Everytown is far more interested in restricting the rights of honest citizens than it is in reducing violent crime or taking violent criminals off the street,” he added.

If that isn’t bad enough, CNN reported that the study was “as though it were gospel,” according to Gottlieb, creating misleading information in the process. It’s another example of media “willing to accept anything from gun control groups without the least bit of skepticism.”

A representative for the CCRKBA joins us now to discuss this study.

Q&A:

  1. Why do you think the Everytown for Gun Safety group put this “study” together? Possibly an effort to please Gov. Gavin Newsom? Or could he have ordered it?
  2. It’s interesting how the study only seems to talk about states that have adopted gun control policies, like California, instead of just a general state consensus. Do you believe this was the general idea?
  3. The CCRKBA has often discussed how “concealed carry”, or “Constitutional-Carry” as some states call it, as a viable solution for “active shooter” events. Why do you believe this is the case?
  4. Is there a reason why some states refuse to accept “concealed carry” as a viable solution? Like Governor Newsom, perhaps?
  5. Where do you see the issue surrounding gun control going in 2024 as far as the Presidential Election is concerned?
  6. Where can people call in to pledge their support to the CCRKBA?
    1. The number to support the group is (800) 699-0992.
  7. Where can we learn more about the CCRKBA and its members?
