The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses the dangerous actions of the young activist, and why she should reconsider.
Young Greta Thunberg is making waves again – though it could be a timely mistake on her part.
Thunberg, along with a handful of activists, recently began making a journey to Israel via boat, hoping to breach Israel’s naval blockade in the hopes of protesting military forces in Gaza. However, the country is well aware of her plan, and warn that she should be turned back.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz noted that he has instructed Israel Defense Forces to “prevent the ‘Madelaine’ (her boat) hate flotilla from reaching the shores of Gaza.”
He added, “To the anti-Semitic Greta and her fellow Hamas propaganda spokespeople, I say clearly: You should turn back – because you will not reach Gaza.”
Thunberg and her allies insist that the mission involves delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, though it’s likely that Thunberg’s political stance could create the wrong kind of tension in an already escalated situation between Israel and Hamas.
So what happens now? And, for that matter, what will take place if Thunberg and his colleagues continue to push forward?
Joining us now to discuss this further is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.
Chava Kleinman, with the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, is also available for interviews.
Q&A:
- What do you think about Thunberg and her anti-Israel colleagues trying to get to the Gaza strip by boat? Should she have even began this journey in the first place? Was there a more official way she could’ve done this, or was it a bad idea from the start?
- Why does Israel see someone like Thunberg as such a problem? Her pro-Hamas messaging, perhaps? The wrong kind of message considering the brutal actions they’ve taken against Israeli people?
- Do you believe Thunberg’s ship will have any kind of success breaking through a military blockade? If not, what action do you believe the party will have to take?
- Could Thunberg possibly use her political motivation to try and “turn the tables” on Israel? What kind of effect could this have?
- Pro-Hamas protestors have been trying to sound their message from the around the world – including a very violent one that recently injured several people in Boulder, Colorado. Why are they so determined to act against Israel?
- Where do you see the Israel/Hamas conflict going in the months ahead?
