Stephen Willeford Discusses the Lakewood Church Shooting

A harrowing incident took place at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston this past Sunday, resulting in the death of a shooter – a female suspect that had brought a child with her – and the injury of two others.

Though it avoided major casualties like other “active shooter” events such as this, many people – including Osteen himself – were notably shaken by it.

“We don’t understand why all these things happened, but we know God’s in control,” he noted in a statement, while also thanking law enforcement for their swift actions.

With that, we would like to recommend an expert on this subject to discuss what took place, and possibly why. Stephen Willeford is a spokesman for the Gun Owners of America, and a firm believer in everyone’s right to bear arms.

But Stephen also has a personal connection with this, as he was the “hero with a gun” in the 2017 Sutherland Springs event, which led to the death of several people before he heroically stepped in to stop any further lives from being taken.

Willeford has since co-written a book about the incident, A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, which is available on Amazon.

Here are a few sample questions that Willeford can discuss on the matter.

  1. What do you think the motivation was for the woman laying siege on Osteen’s church? Why would she bring a child with her?
  2. What does this say about the continuing trend of active shooter events in the United States? Will they possibly continue as 2024 goes on?
  3. For the longest time, you’ve discussed the importance of “Concealed-Carry” (or “Constitutional Carry” as some call it), and how it can thwart would-be active shooters. Explain what makes it such an effective solution.
  4. Why are some states more concerned with potential gun bans than relying on “Constitutional Carry”?
  5. What can we learn from this event, in an effort to prepare ourselves better for the future?
  6. You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
  7. Where can people find your book?
    1. You can purchase the book here on Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle format.
  8. Where can we learn more about you, as well as Gun Owners of America?
    1. You can learn more at http://www.thebarefootdefender.com. You can also read more about the Gun Owners of America at https://www.gunowners.org/.
