Lt Col. Robert Maginnis Interviews with Dan Ball on OAN

Exchange about the ongoing war in the Middle East and Gaza

In a recent interview on Real America with Dan Ball, Robert Maginnis, a national security expert and author, discussed the ongoing violence in Gaza and the broader Middle East conflict. With the breakdown of the ceasefire in Gaza, Maginnis emphasized that such temporary truces are fragile and not built on trust, often failing to resolve the underlying issues. He noted that the deep-rooted territorial disputes, political factions, and animosities between Hamas and Israel make long-lasting peace difficult.

Maginnis highlighted the significant role of Iran in the region, describing the country as a destabilizing force through its proxy groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. Iran’s ideological and financial support for these groups has fueled ongoing violence, and Maginnis believes that the conflict will not be resolved without addressing Iran’s influence. He pointed out that Iran’s ultimate goal is to destabilize Israel and expand its control over the region, which makes ceasefires nearly useless as Iran’s proxies continue to rearm and plan their next moves.

Discussing U.S. policy, Maginnis expressed concern over the shift from the Trump administration’s more assertive stance toward Iran to President Biden’s approach, which includes diplomatic engagement with Tehran. He suggested that this shift has emboldened Iran, destabilizing the region further and empowering groups like Hamas. He noted that the Abraham Accords, which saw Arab nations normalize relations with Israel, are at risk due to the changing U.S. policies.

Maginnis concluded by stressing the need for the U.S. to reaffirm its support for Israel, take stronger action against Iran, and work with regional allies like Egypt and Gulf states to contain Iran’s influence. He believes that without a firm stance on these issues, lasting peace in Gaza and the broader Middle East remains unlikely.
