Abortion Pill Trafficking the New Frontier in Mail Order Madness

As Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill investigates New York-based abortionist Dr. Margaret Carpenter for allegedly mailing abortion pills into the state in violation of its abortion ban, pro-life advocates warn of the growing threat posed by unregulated, mail-order chemical abortions.

Carpenter, co-founder of the Abortion Coalition for Telemedicine, is already under indictment in Louisiana and faces a civil case in Texas. Yet she continues operating under New York’s “shield laws,” which block out-of-state prosecutions—laws critics say endanger women and erode states’ rights.

“Mailing abortion pills into states like Louisiana is a direct attack on the rule of law and women’s safety,” said Tacara McKay, spokesperson for Let Them Live. “These pills are sent without medical oversight, often to women in later stages of pregnancy. This isn’t healthcare—it’s reckless.”

Drugs like mifepristone and misoprostol can cause severe complications when taken without supervision. Pro-life states are now clashing with left-leaning states that protect abortionists and encourage defiance of local bans.

Louisiana’s proposed legislation would allow civil lawsuits against those who “perform, cause, or substantially facilitate” an abortion. Advocates are urging Congress and regulators to close legal loopholes and investigate mail-based abortion practices as the issue moves closer to the U.S. Supreme Court.
