A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America discusses the Department of Justice’s suggested new rule that could restore gun rights to thousands.
Even though Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” still serves as controversial to some gun groups, one of his admins is working to, at the very least, restore gun rights to thousands that didn’t have them before.
A new report from MSN reveals that, right before the weekend, the Department of Justice was working on a new rule that would re-enable gun rights to thousands of Americans who were previously barred from having them beforehand.
Under current Federal law, people that are “convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year” are not allowed to own any sort of firearm.
However, with this new rule, these individuals would be able to have their gun rights restored, though it’s still up to the attorney general on a case-by-case basis. And there would be exceptions to these rules, such as undocumented immigrants, violent felons and registered sex offenders.
The bill, set for introduction this week, notes: “The criteria are designed to ensure the fundamental right of the people to keep and bear arms is not unduly infringed, that those granted relief are not likely to act in a manner dangerous to public safety, and that granting such relief would not be contrary to the public interest.”
The Gun Owners of America are firm believers in everyone’s right to bear arms, as noted by the Second Amendment of the Constitution. A spokesman for the group – either Mark Jones or Stephen Willeford – joins us now to discuss the lawsuit further. We welcome them to the show!
