President Biden Just Changed His Mind About Building a Border Wall – But At What Cost? (Guest: Kay Rubacek)

The producer and editor of the new Epoch Times documentary Gotaways discusses the reversal of thinking about a border wall – and just how effective it will be.

Just a couple of years after noting that “there will not be another foot” of Donald Trump’s border wall built, President Joe Biden has apparently changed course.

Late last week, Biden announced that, in the face of growing migrants in the United States, he will continue to construct the wall that former President Donald Trump began to build in 2016 along the Rio Grande in southern Texas.

“There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States.” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas wrote in the announcement.

While Border Patrol agents have noted where the wall could be helpful in stopping migrants at key locations, it wouldn’t bring the number crossing over down to zero. Not to mention that 26 federal laws will be waived in the face of the wall going up, which could lead to further complications in the future.

That said, many think that Biden’s move is simply a move to keep people from complaining further about the growing border crisis. But is it enough?

Joining us now to discuss this situation further is Kay Rubacek, producer and editor of the film Gotaways, which recently premiered on Epoch TV and focuses on how migrants make their way into the United States. Her experience in seeing what happened and how it affects modern Americans will provide further insight into it.

Q&A:

  1. Would you say that Biden’s recent reversal to build the wall is questionable? Especially considering his stance in the past?
  2. Do you believe he made the announcement as a temporary solution to the ongoing border crisis? More importantly, will it work over time?
  3. Some people see the move as a “political” one. But do you think Biden had any choice in the matter, especially with Congress continuing to divert funds back into its budget?
  4. Where do you see the border crisis going over the next year? Will the situation get worse before it gets better?
  5. Should Biden perhaps focus on hiring more Border patrol agents instead, compared to slowly building a wall?
  6. Tell us more about Gotaways, and what viewers can learn from what you and director/producer Charlotte Cuthbertson have put together.
  7. We understand that Charlotte just won the Best First Time Director award for Gotaways at the Oniros New York Film Festival. What would you say about this accomplishment?
  8. Where can we learn more about Gotaways, as well as you in general?
