A Second Amendment representative explains how state officials need to take a closer look at such bills, as they’re crippling businesses.
While the creators of gun control bills spend a great deal of time patting themselves on the back for their accomplishments (and calling for applause from their supporters), very few realize the effects they can have on businesses – and not just gun retailers.
Per this story from Fox News, a gun control bill is making its way across the Massachusetts legislature – and could spell havoc for surrounding businesses. In this particular case, the owner of a local gun range.
“What the gun owners in this state need to know is that if this law passes, we are all in jeopardy of becoming criminals,” noted Tom Cheffro, the owner of Boston Firearms.
With the bill, titled An Act of Modernizing Firearms Laws, it would require mandatory registration of all firearms, as well as feeding devices. In addition, it would introduce a mandatory ban on people under 21 when it comes to owning shotguns and rifles, and would prevent carrying firearms onto private property, unless permission was given.
Obviously this rules would create havoc for private gun owners and those that practice Concealed-Carry (or Constitutional-Carry, as some call it). But it could also throw a monkey wrench into the plans of business owners, like Cheffro.
“This act of modernizing firearms was not modernizing anything,” Cheffro explained. “It’s just complicating everything to an already complicated firearms law system.”
Joining us now to talk about the bill – and why it should be scuttled away – is a spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation. Their expertise should certainly be useful in this matter.
Q&A:
- What kind of danger does this potential Boston bill pose on private gun owners and businesses?
- Could it literally lead to the arrest of these citizens, even if they’re generally following the law?
- What would it do for those that practice Concealed-Carry? Could it also wreak havoc when it comes to “active shooter” events in the area?
- What is the best solution surrounding this bill? Does it need to be done away with entirely? Wouldn’t the Second Amendment protect against that anyway?
- Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation and its members?
