Louisiana Is the Latest State Running Into Police Woes, Declaring a State of Emergency As a Result (Guest: Michael Letts)

The law enforcement veteran discusses the latest state running into funding problems – and if the problem can be solved.

Following the likes of Maine, Minnesota, New York and Texas, Louisiana is having a serious problem with its police.

According to Law Enforcement Today, Governor Jeff Landry has confirmed a state of emergency for Louisiana, citing record-law employment with Louisiana police departments.

The state has lost 1,800 deputies as of this past July, “resulting in increased crime and less public safety.” With the state of emergency, there are no current restrictions on payroll or hiring limits within a gubernatorial election cycle.

Landry is trying to pass a new state budget that would provide $32 million for State Police initiatives, but there’s no word on when the state’s council will look into it. As a result, crime will likely increase and citizens will be put in harm’s way.

Joining us now to discuss this matter further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. His expertise in all things law and order make him a great subject for this interview. Welcome, Mr. Letts.

Q&A:

  1. Could this state of emergency in Louisiana been avoided? Or has the lack of budget for police officers pretty much doomed the state?
  2. What do you think is the big reason so many officers have resigned or retired from their post? The “defund the police” movement? The lack of respect from higher-up offices? Both? Or something else?
  3. Why are Democrats so hesitant in approving state budgets for the likes of Boston and Seattle that would bring more police officers to their city? Are they still firm believers in “defund the police”?
  4. Can anything be done to turn around the woes of these states? Something Biden can do, perhaps?
  5. Why do you think Biden has been so hesitant in introducing a plan to give funding back to the police?
  6. Where can we learn more about InVest USA, and how those interested can help their fellow officers?
    1. You can visit our official InVest USA website, and learn more on the official Invest USA Twitter account. You can also learn about my new initiative at RestoringJustice.US, where we discuss lawful issues surrounding citizens of the United States.
