January 6 Police Beating of Unconscious Trump Supporter deemed “Objectively Reasonable” by Internal Affairs Guest: Michael Letts

Interview guest Michael Letts, Columbia, SC

The January 6, 2021 Police beating of an unconscious Trump supporter was just deemed “Objectively Reasonable” by the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Internal Affairs Bureau.

Video of the beating was assembled by a Texas man clearly showing a DC police officer using a steel baton and a big wooden stick to beat Trump supporter Rosanne Boyland when she was already unconscious at the West Terrace Capitol tunnel. She was pronounced dead 45 minutes after the brutal beating. But rather than saying that the cause of death was blunt force to the head, the DC medical examiner seemingly outrageously ruled her death to be, get this: an overdose of Adderall?

Never mind that she had been taking Adderall safely for ten years. Then, all of a sudden, it became lethal?

Here to discuss this topic is Michael Letts, a police officer and founder of InVest USA, a charity providing bulletproof vests to police officers.

Suggested Talking Points:

  1. Rosanne Boyland traveled to Washington to attend the Stop the Steal pro-Trump rally. What was the result of that pilgrimage?

Answer: She went to stop the steal, but it appears the DC police stole her life instead.

  1. How can the beating of an Unconscious Trump supporter during the January 6th 2021 Capital Incident be ruled “Objectively Reasonable” by the DC Metropolitan Police Department?

Answer: There is nothing objective or reasonable about it. This finding is highly questionable and morally reprehensible. How can anyone justify beating an unconscious “suspect” in the head with a club who was unconscious and possibly even dead at the time. It was a known fact that the Trump demonstrators all passed through a metal detector so police knew they were unarmed. How cowardly of an officer to beat a person to dearth who was unarmed and unconscious?

  1. What facts of this case should be called into question?

Answer: First, since there was a death involved by a law enforcement officer, that agency (including its Internal Affairs Department) should not be investigating itself. That is highly inappropriate and out of protocol. An outside, independent State or Federal Agency should be the investigative authority, with its findings being submitted to the DA’s Office for review and concurrence. We need to demand to see an outside investigation, NOW!

  1. Are there other troubling facts that are alarming in this case?

Answer: This occurred at the Jan. 6th, 2021 US Capital Incident where another woman, Ashley Babbit, was killed by a US Capital Police Officer. That agency, the same as this agency and incident,  investigated itself, cleared its officer, yet violated protocol. They never interviewed the officer; they refused to provide videotapes, transcripts, audio, and other documentation (until this last week). The information released has shown the opposite of the agency’s earlier claims. It contradicts the justification of the use of deadly force. These agencies were working together that day, and there appears to be a similar cover-up occurring.

  1. Being a police officer for many years, you’ve seen a lot of strange things, but have you ever seen a medical examiner ruled that the cause of death from blunt head trauma by a steel baton and a large wooden stick to an overdose of Adderall?

Answer: I’ve never seen that before because it just doesn’t make sense. Roseanne Boyland had been taking that medication for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder for 10 years and it never seemed to kill her over the past decade. So why did she die this time? Likely because added to her

Adderall was a severe blunt head trauma that was captured on video. The autopsy should have been a slam dunk, not a cover-up. This is outrageous.

  1. Why would InVest USA care about this incident when you are the leading charity providing bulletproof vests to police officers and other first responders?

Answer: InVest USA is the premier charity advocating and supporting our law enforcement officers and first responders in the nation. But part of supporting them is through ensuring they have proper protection and equipment, including active shooter vests. But we also want to see our officers protected from being used as pawns for political purposes by self-styled elitists abusing the law and the justice system. We police officers are sworn to defend and uphold, not be used as political puppets or stormtroopers. Unfortunately, when there are miscarriages of justice, it causes good men and women, America’s Heroes across the country, to be mistrusted—and all because of a few Rogue officers or agencies abusing the system. This thug mentality needs to end quickly, or we may see our Republic morph into a banana republic run by despots.

  1. Tell us more about your charity and what can communities do to help stem the rise in violence and support our thin blue line?

Answer: Visit www.investusa.org to see how to help get active shooter vests to police who need them for protection. The vast majority of communities either do not provide active-shooter vests to their officers, or they issue vests that are not strong enough against modern firepower on the streets
