It Looks Like California’s Controversial Senate Bill 2 Has Taken Effect After All

Thanks to a federal appeals court, the controversial law is in effect – and it hurts the rights of private gun owners.

Despite the best efforts by several gun groups and a lower court judge’s ruling, it appears that Senate Bill 2 has officially gone into effect in California.

A federal appeals court allowed the law to proceed over the weekend, which now enables California to ban the carrying of firearms in most public places. This follows the previous efforts by Judge Cormac Carney of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, who blocked the law and said the ban would unconstitutionally “deprive” citizens of their right to bear arms.

He noted that the ban “is sweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court.”

But the fight is far from over. The Second Amendment Foundation vows to continue to do away with Gov. Newsom’s ban, especially with the Constitution in their favor. A representative for the group joins us now to discuss this further.

Q&A:

  1. Why is Gov. Newsom so determined to ban guns from being carried publicly in California?
  2. Did he not learn from previous attempts to ban weapons that it doesn’t seem to take any sort of effect, especially with the rise in “active shooter” events?
  3. You’ve been noting for the longest time that concealed-carry (or Constitutional-Carry, as some call it) is a viable solution when it comes to “active shooter” events. Why do you believe that is?
  4. What argument would you have for someone that believes that the banning of carrying firearms would be better for the state of California?
  5. How is the Second Amendment Foundation continuing its fight against Senate Bill 2?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation?
