Israel Opposition Parties Unite to Unseat Netanyahu

TOPIC: Israel Opposition Parties Unite to Unseat Netanyahu

GUEST: David Rubin, native New Yorker, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and author of the brand-new book, Confronting Radicals: What America Can Learn from Israel.

AVAILABILITY: Tuesday, June 1 through Thursday, June 3, 2021

The new coalition deadline is Wednesday, days after the cease-fire that ended an 11-day war between Israel and Hamas that left dozens dead. IF a majority is not secured by the deadline, then Israel will be forced to have a fifth election in two years.

The reported anti-Netanyahu alliance of Left and Right under the initial leadership of Naftali Bennett, would be very fragile and would also require the backing of Arab members of parliament who oppose most of Naftali Bennett’s agenda—which includes building more settlements in the occupied West Bank and cracking down on Arab rioters. Netanyahu said that a coalition like this could be dangerous to Israel’s national security and future.

Talking Points:

  • What is Prime Minister Netanyahu’s status right now?
  • What are the opposition parties that are now trying to work together?
  • How would a prospective power-sharing deal work and who would be the first prime minister in the proposed rotation?
  • What are Israelis saying? Do they want this new coalition that will oust Netanyahu?
  • How strong will the Arab voice be in this proposed post-war coalition and what are the ramifications?
  • Tell us about your new book, “Confronting Radicals.”

BIO: David Rubin, former Mayor of Shiloh Israel, is the author of the new book, Confronting Radicals: What America Can Learn from Israel. Rubin is the founder and president of Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, established after he and his then three-year-old son were wounded in a terror attack.
