Israel Election Tuesday: Will Netanyahu Finally Break the Deadlock? (Guest: David Rubin)

Former Mayor of Shiloh Israel David Rubin is available to provide expert election commentary (in-studio in NYC) Tuesday morning, Tuesday afternoon, and Wednesday early morning.

In the Knesset, Israel’s 120 seat parliament, 61 seats are needed to win a majority.

Benjamin Netanyahu, who had been Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, is hoping to reach that majority and to return to power with the help of several smaller parties. If he succeeds, he will replace the current liberal prime minister, Yair Lapid, whose fragile governing coalition consists mainly of left-wing parties, as well as a few moderate conservatives and a party of anti-Israel Muslim radicals.

The final pre-election polls revealed a 60-60 Right-Left deadlock, but will that be the result?

Potential Deal Breakers/Makers to Watch: Left-of-center Defense Minister Benny Gantz, or the greatly feared right-winger Itamar Ben-Gvir, a controversial rising star in Israeli politics.

Here to provide his expert commentary about the election – as well as what could result from it – is David Rubin, former Mayor of Shiloh Israel, author of seven books, and founder of Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund.

Q&A:

  1. What chance do you think Netanyahu has to win and reclaim his role as Prime Minister?
  2. If there is another deadlocked election, what happens next, and is there a chance Netanyahu could try to run again in the future?
  3. Let’s talk about Itamar Ben-Gvir. Why is half of Israel (and much of the world) so afraid of him, and what would happen if his were to be the third largest party?
  4. What are the burning issues for Israeli voters?
  5. Let’s talk worldwide effect. Are President Joe Biden and his colleagues keeping a close eye on the election? Do they have a preference and are they trying to influence?
  6. What kind of worldwide effect could we see from Israel following the election?
  7. Tell us more about your work as an author, especially your most recent books, Confronting Radicals: What America Can Learn from Israel and Trump and the Jews.
  8. Where can we learn more about you, as well as your work with the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund?
