Mitch McConnell’s Support For Anti-Gun Advocate Lisa Murkowski Speaks Volumes For Those That Bear Arms (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

Gun Owners of America representative Stephen Willeford explains why this is a move that could endanger gun support in the Senate.

One of Mitch McConnell’s most recent decisions is sending a number of pro-gun advocates reeling.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell recently showed his support for Senator Lisa Murkowski, spending $5 million to help push back against candidate Kelly Tshibaka, who is backed by former President Donald Trump.

Many pro-gun advocates see this as a big problem, mainly because Murkowski has spoken up in the past about anti-gun legislation. Tshibaka even noted what a problem this is, explaining that “the millions of dollars Mitch McConnell is spending on lies about me” could easily be spent elsewhere.

The Gun Owners of America recently spoke up about this, explaining that McConnell is merely aiming at letting vice president Kamala Harris have her 50-50 majority in Congress, rather than seeing Murkowski get replaced by someone that support guns.

Here to provide his take on the situation is Stephen Willeford, who currently serves as a spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may also recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is certainly welcome in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. What do you think about McConnell’s actions as a whole? Some believe this is a change of character, especially considering his support of former President Trump in the past.
  2. Do you think his logic about keeping Congress balanced instead of gaining a pro-gun advantage makes sense? What do you believe his end goal may be here?
  3. We’re seeing a lot of ad campaigns right now where guns are a primary topic. What do you think about how they’re used to either give someone a boost or take away credibility?
  4. $5 million seems like an awful lot to spend on ads that Tshibaka considers “lies”. But is this something we see a lot of in Washington? Could we see even more spending leading up to the election next month?
  5. How important is it now to have a pro-gun advantage in politics? Especially with President Joe Biden discussing a potential ban on assault weapons down the road?
  6. What argument would you have for someone that believes that a ban on assault weapons would be the most practical solution?
  7. Many call you the “good guy with a gun” from what took place in 2017 in Sutherland Springs. Tell us more about what happened and how you were able to contain the situation.
  8. Where can we learn more about you and your current work with the Gun Owners of America?
