Israel and Lebanon – The Road To Peace?

A new framework deal has been put in place between the two sides – but will this one last?

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed a new U.S. brokered framework agreement between Jerusalem and Lebanon that could be the first step towards peace for Israel – and it’s something that Founder and President of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin is watching closely.

  • With help from the U.S. and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Jerusalem and Lebanon have reached a new framework agreement on the path to peace.
  • Though there is likely to be opposition from Iran and the Islamic Republic over the deal, it looks to hold firmly in place – at least, depending on what Hezbollah does.

According to Fox News,  this deal serves as a “path of diplomatic normalization” between the two sides, and could force Hezbollah to give up control over parts of the Lebanese state that it’s taken control of.

Netanyahu noted that the deal is “a severe blow to Iran,” as it essentially rejects any essence of Iranian interference within the region.

Mike Huckabee, who serves as U.S. Ambassador to Israel, added, “Was there all week but had to fly back to Israel Thursday night. Historic opportunity but key is disarming Hezbollah, evil terrorists who have killed Americans.”

Guila Fabhoury, whose father was kidnapped by Hezbollah back in 2019, noted that she was pleased with the “historic achievement,” but also worded caution behind it.

“Whether this agreement brings lasting peace and stability will depend entirely on its implementation. The Lebanese state and its legitimate institutions must be the ones to create stability, not external actors or armed organizations operating outside government authority.”

Walid Phares, who serves as a leading U.S. expert on Lebanon and the Mideast, also added, “It’s clear Tehran will complain about such a deal and pressure the negotiators to get some statement from Washington asserting the Islamic Republic’s say over Lebanon. Hezbollah will attack the deal but will pray Israel wont strike.”

So now it’s just a matter of seeing where the deal goes from here – especially since the recent deal between U.S. and Iran is in danger of being breached.

Rubin joins us now to discuss the deal further. Welcome, Mayor Rubin!
