Independence Day Is Just Right For NFA Repeal!

A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America explains why Congress would make a huge impact completing the repeal in time for the national holiday.

It seems like Congress is fully on board with supporting Section 70436 of H.R. 1—the “One Big Beautiful Bill”—which would repeal the unconstitutional excise taxes on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and any other weapons under the National Firearms Act of 1932 (NFA).

But the question now is when the legislation will finally pass. And with that, the Gun Owners of America have a great idea – Independence Day, July 4, 2025.

“GOA is demanding that lawmakers preserve Section 70436 and adhere to their Independence Day deadline to pass this legislation and deliver a historic win for the Second Amendment,” the group said in a statement.

To add to that, Sam Paredes, Gun Owners of America Board Member, said, “July 4th is the perfect day to strike down the tyranny of the NFA’s unconstitutional tax scheme. This represents a long-overdue restoration of rights that never should have been taken away in the first place. Congress must not cave or delay. Gun owners expect action—and GOA will hold accountable any lawmaker who tries to gut this historic provision.”

A spokesman for the group – either Mark Jones or Stephen Willeford – joins us now to discuss this push even further.

Q&A:

  1. You believe that July 4th would be the absolute perfect day to pass the legislation on this NFA tax. How much of an effect do you believe it would have on private gun owners in the U.S. as a whole?
  2. Do you believe such a decision on that date could anger those that have been for the NFA’s taxation of guns? Namely certain Democrats who don’t seem too fond of people having gun rights, perhaps?
  3. Do you believe it’ll actually be passed in this timeframe? Or is there anything that could stand in the way?
  4. After this, are there any other gun legislations or rules that should be looked into, especially following previous President Joe Biden’s attempts to get certain things banned?
  5. Gun Owners of America is hosting an event this year called GOALS 2025. Tell us more about it.
  6. FOR STEPHEN: You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
  7. FOR STEPHEN: Where can people find your book?
    1. You can purchase the book here on Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle format.
  8. FOR MARK: Tell us more about the Hunter Outreach program.
