Email Threats to Shen Yun Dancers Traced back to Chinese Company Accused of Espionage on Behalf of the CCP
Police investigations have traced the origin of bombing and mass shooting threats sent to Shen Yun dancers, to the Huawei Research Institute in Xi’an, China. The Shen Yun performing arts is currently in Taiwan, where the threats were received.
Newsmakers Leeshai Lemish, an emcee for Shen Yun, who has been with the American company since 2006 has witnessed these threats firsthand and can discuss them further. Levi Browde is the Executive Director of Falun Dafa and is very familiar with the challenges facing Shen Yun.
For years, the U.S. has suspected Huawei of engaging in corporate espionage on behalf of the CCP. If these threats against Shen Yun come from Huawei, it’s even further evidence that the CCP is behind them.
As China’s Communist Party (CCP) continues to accuse others of coercion and blackmail, a disturbing pattern of real-world intimidation is once again surfacing—this time involving threats of mass violence and a major Chinese tech firm, suspected of doing the bidding of the CCP.
Browde and Lemish, spokesmen for Shen Yun Performing Arts and the Falun Dafa Information Center, are available for interviews following a wave of bomb and shooting threats sent to government agencies and venues across Taiwan—directly tied to Shen Yun’s recent tour there.
This is more than a cyber incident—it’s a coordinated campaign of fear designed to silence a peaceful group of artists whose only “crime” is performing classical Chinese dance while exposing human rights abuses, particularly the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
The threats—13 confirmed cases so far—included chilling messages about detonating explosives at Shen Yun performances and shooting attendees. According to Taiwanese authorities, the emails bore hallmarks of China’s cyber army, using politically charged handles referencing the Tiananmen Square Massacre. Despite using overseas VPNs to mask the source, digital forensics traced the network traffic back to Huawei facilities.
“This is what the CCP does when it feels threatened by truth and culture,” says Browde. “They attack artists, venues, and even civilians to stop the spread of ideas they can’t control.”
Adds Lemish: “When Huawei talks about global innovation, we should ask—at what cost? These aren’t just tech engineers. They’re part of an ecosystem of surveillance, suppression, and intimidation.”
In a world where authoritarian regimes increasingly export fear, Lemish and Browde are ready to speak out. They offer sharp insight on the CCP’s playbook, the role of Chinese corporations in foreign interference, and why protecting artistic freedom is more important than ever.
Lemish and Browde are available to discuss this hypocrisy, the importance of protecting artistic freedom, and what Shen Yun’s global success reveals about the Chinese people’s spirit—and the regime’s fear of it.
