The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses a meeting between Netanyahu and U.S. envoys, and what comes next with the ceasefire.
Amidst all the tension overseas right now, it appears that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is continue to hold in place. But the real question now is what comes next.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently met up with President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in an effort to discuss what the next stage is with the ceasefire.
While the U.S. sees opportunities with trying to move forward with peace (particularly with the formation of their own committee), there are still questions. However, there is progress, especially with the body of Ran Gvill, the final hostage, has been returned from Gaza.
David Rubin, former Mayor of Shiloh, made the point perfectly clear about the border crossing. “For a lasting peace, an open Rafah border crossing should be a one-way exit for every member and supporter of Hamas, with no right of return.”
At this point, can progress truly be made?
Rubin, who is also Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, joins us now to discuss the situation further. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.
Q&A:
- What are your thoughts on the ceasefire as it’s taken place thus far? Would you say that Israel has made progress as Hamas? Or is there still work to be done?
- Is it fair for Netanyahu to be hesitant about moving into the next stage, even with the return of the final hostage?
- Many believe that the Rafah border crossing opening would be a huge move. What are your thoughts on that?
- The U.S. seems to want to move forward with the next step in the ceasefire. But will their committee – formed with barely any Israel officials in mind – be a hindrance in getting that done?
- Where do you see the ceasefire going from here? Will it indeed move forward, or could conflict rise again?
