With the national and local elections just weeks away, Second Amendment advocates are trying not to let the perfect become the enemy of the good, and leaders are encouraging grassroots rank and file to look seriously at the positions of President Trump and Joe Biden when it comes to gun rights, and not let tangential issues sway their pro-gun vote.
Joining us in this discussion is Cam Edwards, a board member of the Citizens Committee to Keep and Bear Arms.
Q&A:
- You recently attended the Gun Rights Policy Conference and the takeaway from that meeting was expressed clearly by Dave Kopp of the Arizona Citizens Defense League about unity in the pro-gun movement. Tell us about that.
Answer: Yes, Dave Kopp cracked the code of grassroots politics during the Gun Rights Policy Conference, saying, “One of the things we need to understand, right from the start, is that we are in a fight and we need to act like we’re in a fight.” I agree.
- Tell us about reaching political perfection for gun rights.
Answer: Not happing. The rank and file gun rights activists need to stop looking for political perfection. A person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally, not a 20 percent traitor…We cannot keep looking for politicians that are 100 percent on our side.”
- What kind of turnout do you expect from 2nd Amendment supporters?
Answer: Considering the fact that we are looking at a mountain of gun control measures, it should be a big turnout.
- activists began showing up at public meetings. One of our members , Phil Van Cleave, says more than 105,000 gun owners showed up at various local government meetings across the state of Virginia alone,
- How many people assemble on the capitol in Richmond last January and why so many?
Answer: An estimated 50,000 gun owners descended on the capitol in Richmond, since Virginia Governor Nordstrom is so liberal and needs to be opposed and eventually deposed.
- So, were 2nd Amendment activists able to stop those gun-grabbing measures in Virginia?
Answer: Unfortunately, not but they were watered down somewhat after the large demonstration. The next state elections are held in November 2021, and those activist gun owners won’t forget.
- What are the choices for gun rights supporters for President?
Answer: The Biden-Harris ticket that we’re looking at as the Democratic nominees are a ticket that will, I believe, destroy our Second Amendment freedoms. They’re the most anti-gun ticket that I’ve ever witnessed in my lifetime.

ABOUT CAM EDWARDS (In Eastern Time)
Cam Edwards is originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he worked in morning drive-time radio. He grew up in a gun-free household (Edward’s mother was a Kennedy Democrat). Becoming a husband and a father in his mid-20s persuaded him to buy his first firearm for protection. When asked how many guns he owns, Edwards has joked, “Less than 42.”
For years he hosted the “Cam & Company” radio show at NRA News. He lives on a 40-acre farm with his family in Farmville, Virginia and is a member of the board of Citizens Committee to Keep and Bear Arms.

A native of Sutherland Springs, Texas, Stephen Willeford was raised in a family of five on a dairy farm near the First Baptist Church. He is the fourth generation to live on a few hundred acres of land in Wilson County.
