Don’t be Gun Shy: Gun Expert Calls for Independent Panel to Investigate Gun Used in Charlie Kirk Assassination
As the investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk continues to unfold, one of the nation’s most vocal Second Amendment advocates says the tragedy is revealing far more than the public has been told — not just about what happened, but about what’s coming next. Mark Jones, National Director and spokesman for Gun Owners of America (GOA), says the investigation has now become a political weapon aimed at reshaping America’s gun debate in ways that will shock even seasoned observers.
Jones argues that the narrative around the alleged firearm used in Kirk’s assassination has already been weaponized to advance an anti-gun agenda that goes well beyond so-called “assault weapons.”
“Many commentators have questions about the circumstances surrounding the firearm supposedly used to kill Charlie Kirk,” Jones says. “Unless an independent panel of experts is allowed to evaluate and test fire the alleged rifle, those questions will never be answered. What’s even more important to America’s gun owners is what the Left is finally admitting.
Because the alleged firearm was a hunting rifle, anti-gun politicians are finally admitting something GOA has warned about for decades. The Left wants to ban hunting rifles too. For years they’ve said they didn’t want to come after hunting rifles, but recently, Democrat leaders have called for tighter controls on America’s most popular hunting rifles because that is ‘supposedly’ what was used to assassinate Charlie.”
For GOA, this is the moment they’ve long warned was inevitable: the expansion of gun control efforts to include even the most traditional firearms — the kind owned by millions of law-abiding hunters and sportsmen across the country. Jones notes that gun control advocates have strategically used tragedies to push new restrictions, but this case marks a new and dangerous precedent — one that reframes hunting rifles, the backbone of American shooting culture, as “weapons of war.”
As the investigation drags on, GOA is calling for transparency, independent forensic testing, and accountability for those attempting to politicize the tragedy. Jones will speak candidly about how this case could set the stage for the next major push in gun control legislation, the erosion of rural rights, and the government’s growing hostility toward traditional American gun ownership.
Mark Jones is available for interviews nationwide to discuss the implications of the Kirk investigation and what it means for gun owners across America.
