Law enforcement veteran Michael Letts has seen enough needless death in the renowned Texas city.
The continued “demonization” of police forces has taken a frustrating turn in San Antonio, Texas.
A recent Fox News report has revealed that five officers from San Antonio’s police department have committed suicide over the past few months, following rising tensions from “defund the police” campaigns, as well as heightened criminal activity.
Tania Glenn, a trauma therapist based in Austin, spoke with Fox about what’s happening with the city’s police force. “They have a really big city with a lot of violence, and they have been dealing with the media portrayals of law enforcement folks as demons,” Glenn explained.
“All these things have really come to a screeching halt between the pandemic and what happened after George Floyd. So, they’re isolated. Their mental health is suffering, the trauma is compounding, and it’s just this perfect storm for what’s happening there.“
Here to speak with us now about what’s happening in San Antonio is Michael Letts, who has over 30 years of law enforcement under his belt. Letts currently serves as president, founder and CEO for InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. His expertise will prove worthwhile in this matter.
Q&A:
- This seems to be the latest example of police either quitting or committing suicide due to conditions stemming from “defund the police” campaigns. How frustrating is it to see this happening?
- What do you think is the biggest problem in all this? Governments removing funding? A growing criminal element? Something else?
- One of the biggest things revolving around this is a lack of mental health care for officers. How vital is this when it comes to police officers doing their job?
- We’ve heard reports of how some officers’ spouses actually had to take pro-police stickers off their cars due to harassment or potentially being hunted by anti-police protestors. Do you think this has gone too far?
- President Joe Biden and certain members of Congress have talked about “funding the police” but there appears to be little progress being made on this front. If you had the chance to take care of a police bill, how would you go about it?
- Is there anything you want to say to San Antonio’s police department about what they’re going through right now?
- Tell us more about InVest USA, and how it’s helping police officers, especially in their time of need. We believe you’re interested in donating some vests to the police in Bristol, correct?
- Where can we learn more about In-Vest USA, and how people can contribute to the group?
