A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America explains how one shady representative managed to fool many in Pennsylvania with a fake amendment.
With gun rights continuing to be a hot discussion, many states take their Constitutional Carry laws very seriously. However, one representative in Pennsylvania thought it might be a good idea to fool people with a fake amendment.
Representative Frank Burns recently filed a bill that would add an amendment in PA’s Constitution to pass Constitutional Carry. Only…it’s not what it seems.
Following a previous vote against a procedural motion to allow real Constitutional Carry earlier in the year, Burns made the move with the Amendment in an effort to save face. But the Gun Owners of America aren’t fooled, bringing up the reasoning why it’s not what it says it is:
- We already have the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms enshrined in the PA Constitution (Article 1, Section 21 and Article 1, Section 25).
- A constitutional amendment for Constitutional Carry would be a long, complicated process, taking years and would be subject to a statewide referendum. Do you want anti-gun Philadelphia Democrats voting on your God-given rights?
- A constitutional amendment would allow legislators to wash their hands of the process and would give them cover if the amendment fails at the ballot box. This could PERMANENTLY destroy any chances of Constitutional Carry passing in the future.
Had Burns stuck with a motion that would’ve done away with repealing the law, it would’ve been a lot easier with its process. Alas, that’s clearly not what he wants.
Stephen Willeford, the 2017 “Hero with a Gun” who serves as spokesman for the Gun Owners of America, joins us now to discuss this notable victory. We welcome him to the show.

- What about this new amendment? What signs indicate that it’s a lot shadier than Burns is letting on?
