Eliminate ATF Funding Until Second Amendment Rights Are Protected

The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are under attack yet again, but for all the right reasons.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) recently called on Congress to block funding for ATF in the forthcoming Fiscal Year budget. And the reasoning is very simple – they’re demanding that Democrats and federal bureaucrats publicly recognize the rights of the Second Amendment to all law-abiding citizens, stating that their attacks on legal gun ownership are without merit.

A hearing is set to take place this Thursday at the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, with the ATF’s “assault” on the Second Amendment coming into question. The CCRKBA believes its call should be loud and clear in time for this hearing.

“We’ve seen attacks on Second Amendment rights under previous Democrat presidents,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “but the Biden administration has pulled out all the stops. Joe Biden has publicly declared his desire to ban modern semiautomatic rifles and 9mm pistols, the most popular firearms in the nation. Millions of honest citizens own semiautomatic rifles for all kinds of uses, including home defense, competition, predator control, recreational shooting and hunting, and they have never harmed anyone. Likewise, millions of men and women own and use 9mm pistols for personal and home protection, training, target shooting, competition, business protection, and other legitimate uses.

“But under Joe Biden, the ATF has been weaponized against law-abiding citizens, and his budget proposal includes $1.9 billion for the agency to expand operations and increase regulation of the firearms industry.” In other words, enough is enough.

Gottlieb concluded, “The only way to derail this obsession is for House and Senate Republicans to send a message to the White House and Capitol Hill Democrats by refusing to fund the agency Biden wants to unleash on law-biding Americans. This war on the Second Amendment must stop now.”

A representative for the CCRKBA joins us now to discuss this call further, and why it’s more important than ever before.

Q&A:

  1. Why do you think President Biden is so hellbent on funding the ATF to expand its resources across the United States? Is he that devoted to completing his ban on “assault weapons”? Or is it something else?
  2. Do you believe he’s working on pushing this funding in the hopes of impressing his colleagues or people within his own administration? Maybe even flexing his muscles for international ties as well?
  3. We’ve seen states attack the Second Amendment in their own ways over the past few months with restrictive gun laws and other ridiculous measures. Do you believe, with the ATF receiving more funding, these could continue throughout 2023 and beyond?
  4. You’ve noted in the past how effective Concealed-Carry (or Constitutional Carry, as some call it) has been against “active shooters”? Why do you think Biden doesn’t seem that interested in looking more at this resolution, rather than his proposed ban on “assault weapons”?
  5. What do you think will come out of the hearing Thursday, and do you believe there will be repercussions surrounding the decision?
  6. Where can people call in to pledge their support to the CCRKBA?
