Election Software CEO Has Been Arrested For a Major Case of Data Theft – And Even Stored It On Servers In China (Guest: Joshua Philipp)

The Epoch Times reporter Joshua Philipp discusses the controversy surrounding his arrest – and what it means for precious data.

An interesting arrest has some election workers concerned about the security of their information – and, worse yet, who may have their hands on it.

The Epoch Times recently reported that Eugene Yu, the head of Michigan-based software company Konnech Corporation, has been arrested earlier this week. The charge? He was allegedly stealing and storing personal information from said election workers in Los Angeles County. But it’s where the information was stored that has some people worried – on servers in China.

The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office noted that the theft involved “the personal identifying information” of said election workers. As part of his arrest, several computer hard drives and digital data surrounding the case was taken.

This comes just two years after Konnech managed to win a nearly $3 million contact with Los Angeles County, which was used during the last California election. The software was initially put in place to help with poll worker assignments.

While L.A. County District Attorney George Gascon noted that “the alleged conduct had no impact on the tabulation of votes and did not alter election results,” there are still lots of security questions.

Joining us now to discuss this further is Joshua Philipp. Joshua currently serves as investigative reporter for The Epoch Times, having contributed to recent documentaries such as Border Deception: How the U.S. and U.N. Are Quietly Running the Border Crisis and The Real Story of January 6. His expertise should prove useful in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. What does this say about the safety of information these days? It’s a bit shocking to see a higher-up with a data company such as Konnech be involved in such controversy.
  2. Why do you believe he stored the information in China? For security purposes? Or did he possibly have partners that were ready to use the data?
  3. What good would information surrounding poll workers have been to Konnech? Possibly as leverage for a future election? Or other purposes?
  4. During your investigations, how often do you see data theft being performed? Would you say it’s something that Americans have to keep a closer eye on?
  5. Do you believe other companies could be involved in such data theft, especially with the next round of elections fast approaching? Or do you believe systems will be secure enough?
  6. Do you think more investigation will be put into high-end tech companies following this, just to make sure they’re properly following procedure?
  7. Tell us more about the recent documentaries you worked on, Border Deception and The Real Story of January 6.
  8. Where can viewers see Border Deception and learn what’s happening?
