A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America discusses the latest move by Governor Jared Polis surrounding the ban of numerous semiautomatic guns.
As the argument surrounding Second Amendment rights continues, Gov. Jared Polis of Colorado has decided to make a statement of his own – an outright unconstitutional ban.
This week, Polis signed a bill that, starting in August 2026, will call for a full ban of the manufacturing, selling and purchasing of certain semiautomatic firearms with detachable ammunition magazines.
He noted, “I really think this will make Colorado safer” after signing the bill into effect.
The bill will cover AR-15 and AK-47 rifles, along with tactical shotguns and other “variants,” as Senate Bill 3 notes. The only exceptions are guns that have a magazine with a maximum capacity of 15 rounds with welding, epoxy or soldering – weapons that aren’t even made that often.
There will be exceptions, according to the bill, but people will be required to get a “firearms safety course eligibility card,” which will require a background check amongst other steps.
Many gun groups are already fighting back against the bill, noting how it goes against the Second Amendment in so many ways. However, Polis remains firm in his stance, believing that this full-on ban will bring down violence in Colorado. But, considering how limp other gun ban bills have gone, will it?
Joining us now is a spokesman for the Gun Owners of America to discuss the effects of such a bill.
Mark Jones, who serves as National Director for the Gun Owners of America, is available for interview. There is also Stephen Willeford, who currently serves as spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. Stephen is the “hero with a gun” from the Sutherland Springs incident in 2017, which he has since co-written a book about.
We welcome our guest to the show!
