A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation explains why banning bump stocks won’t resolve any gun issues within the United States.
A few days ago, the Supreme Court chose to knock down the Trump-era ban on bump stocks, creating a victorious win for Second Amendment advocates and private gun owners alike. But apparently, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer wasn’t too happy with the decision.
Schumer is already planning to hold a vote on legislation this week, hoping to ban the gun accessory on a Congressional level. He noted in a press conference, “The Senate can help restore this public safety rule, and next week, it will try. As majority leader, I have the ability to allow a unanimous consent vote, and we’ll see just what Republican MAGAs do: Will they allow it to go forward, or will they cower to MAGA and hurt the American people?”
Trump had banned bump stocks years prior following a Las Vegas shooting incident in which several people died at an outside concern venue. However, many had argued that the accessory, used to convert the firing on an assault rifle, shouldn’t be the focus of attention when it comes to gun regulation.
Still, that isn’t stopping Schumer from holding his vote. The real question is if it will have an effect, especially considering the Supreme Court decision.
