Can Polarization Be Harnessed With the Help of Empathy-Based Leadership Development? (Guest: Gareth Gwyn)

Let’s See Labs founder and author Gareth Gwyn explains how her program helps people find their best leadership, even if they’re facing personal trauma.

With the current state of business as it stands, Gareth Gwyn recently discussed the innovations that tie in with Let’s See Labs, a program she helped create to assist those with finding leadership skills and strengths.

She brought up a specific example with Ahmed, an Egyptian who recently migrated to the United States. His social-political tension had resulted in a certain perspective of “enemies,” though, really, “there is no enemy,” according to him. Gwyn notes that, because of this, “In the crucible of interpersonal tension, creativity is born.

“The idea here is to empower people to understand their worth beyond external conditions,” Gwyn continued in her article. “When leaders own this sense of self, their ability to lead drastically transforms.”

Across ten different workshops over the past two years, Let’s See Labs has helped many through different communities, focusing on pushing a strong leadership model to encourage intimacy and connection over distances.

The goal of Let’s See Labs, Gwyn notes, anxiety, tension and defensiveness are able to be leveraged, rather than avoided. This does away with “brushing off” of something that isn’t a big deal, and instead addressing it to improve one’s perspective – just like Ahmed’s.

Working through a three-tiered approach – talks, workshops, and programs – Let’s See Labs works through a human-centric process, hence leading to stronger leadership. And as a public program for 20 individual leaders in the works, it’s certainly got room to grow.

Gwyn joins us now to discuss the establishment of Let’s See Labs, how it’s most effective, and what’s next.

Q&A:

  1. Congratulations on the success of Let’s See Labs. What inspired you to develop this company, and what would you say was the biggest challenge when it came to putting it together?
  2. How were you able to craft such an elaborate program that works with people to find strengths within their weaknesses to make them a stronger leader?
  3. Do you think strong leadership is needed now more than ever, especially with low morale already affecting a number of businesses on the market?
  4. Let’s say someone is interested in joining Let’s See Labs. Where’s the first place someone should begin – with a talk, a program or a workshop? Or does it really depend on the type of person?
  5. Have you been continuing to add to Let’s See Labs over the past few years, depending on how certain things have changed in the business world?
  6. You’re also the author, and your latest book is You Are Us: How To Build Bridges In a Polarized World. Tell us more about it and what motivated you to find the unique subjects that you feature in it.
  7. Can you tell us where you want to take Let’s See Labs next? Or is it a slow and steady process in terms of developing for the right people?
  8. Where can we learn more about your book and the Lets See Labs workshops?

The book is available for purchase here on Amazon; and you can find more information on everything we do with Let’s See Labs over on BuildBridges.US.
