Can Fox News Survive Without Tucker Carlson? (Guest: Kevin Jackson)

Former Fox News contributor Kevin Jackson looks at the repercussions from the network’s firing of the ratings-drawing host.

Following a sizable settlement with Dominion that reached into the hundreds of millions, Fox News began its “accountability cleanup” with a number of key firings within its division. But, surprisingly enough, this included the host of one of its most popular shows, Tucker Carlson.

The firing caught Carlson – as well as many analysts – by surprise, considering the millions that had tuned in to watch him nightly. And though no specific reasons were given for his firing, some point to the way he mistreated certain people on-set.

But the question is who really lost from the firing. Carlson has apparently bounced back with his online presence, but Fox News has seen its ratings plummet from his departure. And this is for nearly all of its shows, save for Gutfeld.

Will Fox News recover from this? Or will Carlson essentially find himself laughing his way to the bank as he sets out on a new venture? After all, his “return” video has seen tens of millions of views – far more than Fox’s current programming.

Joining us to discuss this further is Kevin Jackson, a former Fox News contributor who is now a best-selling author on Amazon. Jackson recently founded The Kevin Jackson Network, which delivers highly entertaining news commentary and value-based movies without the limits of social media getting in the way. His expertise will truly be useful in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. Does Tucker’s dismissal spell bad news for Fox News as a whole? Could this possibly put a tarnish on its promise for “fair and balanced” coverage?

  3. Between this and CNN’s firing of Don Lemon, what does this say for the future of network news as a whole? Could we see even more shaking-up? More online interaction?
  4. What do you believe Tucker will do now? Could he find online presence ala Alex Jones with his own program? Or is he likely to team up with someone?
  5. How will Fox News respond to its abysmal ratings drop? Or can it recover at this point?
