“When good people do nothing, that is evil enough.”
I heard this in a movie long ago and it resonates with me. There are people right now sitting on the sidelines, seeing our country erupt into chaos over a number of issues. And yet they’re afraid to speak up on the matter, mainly because they simply want to live their lives and take care of their loved ones — which is totally fine, by the way.
However, when we have established leaders who follow this sense of logic, it’s a problem, because it’s their job to take care of their people — no matter how troublesome their choices may be.
That’s what I’m wondering with President Joe Biden. I’ve talked about how lost ol’ Joe has been in the past with certain issues, like how he’s treating his government agencies or the fact he won’t follow through on providing police officers with a budget, though he promised it long ago.
But perhaps the most disturbing thing I’ve seen from him as of late is his lack of action surrounding the violent protests that have broken out on college campuses across the United States. These pro-Palestinian followers have done all sorts of heinous acts over the past week, including destroying property, injuring Jewish citizens and students who are simply trying to get to class, and occupying our hardworking police forces, when they have their hands full enough as it is.
Biden hasn’t said a word. Not one. Complete silence. He’s going about his business like all is happy-go-lucky, when that isn’t the case.
One reporter decided he had had enough and, during a press briefing with White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on May 1, asked about Biden’s silence on the matter. He simply asked why Biden hasn’t been more “forceful” in speaking against these mobs on college campuses.
To which Jean-Pierre replied, “No other president has spoken about antisemitism than this president.”
And then she gave some general explanation, but no real resolution. No nothing. Just Joe being Joe.
So why? Why? Why the silence on the matter? I have a few guesses here.
The big one is Biden’s popularity. That’s important to him as runs for reelection. His numbers have already reached an all-time low with what’s been happening at our nation’s borders, not to mention the rising inflation we’ve seen in this country. If he were to say something about this matter, he’d lose votes — either on the pro-Israel side or the pro-Palestinian side. So, as expected, he’s clamming up.
He’s sacrificing doing his proper duty in this country to take control of our college campuses in favor of a popularity vote. Think about that.
There’s another thing to consider” his relationship with overseas countries. We saw that he granted a huge multibillion-dollar package to support Israel. So if he did fight back against this mob, it may look good for that side of things. However, it’s likely that other countries might shake him loose from such a decision, which could also leave him high and dry when it comes to support for his reelection.
That’s just a mild guess at best, but one of those two has to be the deciding factor over why he’s so quiet.
But that silence speaks volumes. It just does. People see his inability to react to a situation like this or follow through on his promises. And they’ve had enough. Not being able to say anything and having Jean-Pierre say pretty much next to nothing shows that he just doesn’t care. Oh, but he’ll rip the guns out of the hands of private gun owners and leave them to defend themselves with, I don’t know … flags?
There’s going to be a turning point where Biden’s inactions are going to cost him. And I have a feeling that’s going to come later this year, when he asks the American people to trust him one more time and they respond, “Well, that didn’t really work out for us the last time, now did it?”
Remember this. Remember his silence. Remember his inability to protect the American people and respect those who have been injured, because I’m sure many already do, and they’re going to make their voices heard in a short amount of time.
Maybe Joe should’ve spoken up when he had the chance.
