Biden Seems To Be Divided With Support For Israel But No Support For Netanyahu – But What Does It Mean?

Former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin discusses the actions by the President, and why they could come back to bite him with his re-election.

At a time when President Joe Biden seems to be having trouble with his decision-making, he’s just made one of his most divisive yet.

Biden recently confirmed that he still intends to support Israel in its fight with Hamas, providing them necessary weaponry as they attempt to rescue hostages.

However, in the same breath, he has managed to “break away” from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, noting that the leader “must pay more attention to the innocent lives being lost as a consequence of the actions taken” within Gaza. In the same breath, however, he noted, “the defense of Israel is still critical.”

But can this flip-flop of support truly work? Is he truly pushing to defend Israel without backing Netanyahu? It seems like a divided line to walk.

Joining us now is David Rubin, the former Mayor of Shiloh Israel, to discuss the matter further. Welcome, David!

Q&A:

  1. What do Biden’s comments about supporting Israel but not supporting Netanyahu say about his decision making?
  2. Could his support (and non-support) bring trouble when it comes to key decisions surrounding helping Israel in their time of need? Will there possibly be a time where he’s divided in sending over more weapons?
  3. Why do you think Biden is continuing to support Israel? Is he trying to keep support from his audience for his re-election? Could this possibly hurt him in the long run?
  4. We’ve seen other presidents try and break way from Netanyahu while supporting Israel with mixed results. Bill Clinton broke away and kept his support, while Barack Obama wasn’t able to. Do you think this was due to a difference in approach, or something else?
  5. Where do you see the war between Israel and Hamas going in the months ahead?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, as well as what else you’re working on?
