Will Ramadan Have To Change This Year Due To the Israel/Hamas Conflict? (Guest: Josh Waller)

The co-host of The Israel Guys podcast and “American cowboy in Israel” discusses how the war could impact the time of reflection.

Usually, Ramadan holds special meaning for the Islamic populace, serving as a period that includes prayer, reflection and community. This year, however, it seems far more difficult to celebrate.

That’s because of the ongoing fight between Israel and Hamas; and even though several have tried to negotiate some kind of ceasefire in an effort to save hostages, it doesn’t appear that either side is budging.

Because of this, we will likely see how citizens continue to struggle with guilt and rage, as this article in USA Today points out. In it, several examples are brought up surrounding what so many citizens feel from the attacks, with no end in sight for the bloodshed.

“If the carnage continues during the monthlong Ramadan, we are bracing ourselves for more searing impact on our souls: Fasting from dawn to sunset, by many accounts, increases one’s emotional sensitivity and empathy,” the author notes in the piece.

Joining us now to discuss the impact of this is Joshua Waller. He serves as Operations Director for HaYovel, a group that specializes in calling for volunteers to assist with needs within Israel. He is also a co-host of The Israel Guys, and spends quite a bit of time discussing the good report of the Land within the United States.

His expertise on all things Israel make him a great subject for this interview. Welcome, Joshua!
