After nearly three years in office and millions of illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. and disappeared, President Joseph Biden has finally decided there is a crisis at the southern U.S. border.
This, of course, happened after he and his administration spent most of that time either ignoring the problem or denying it existed. Meanwhile, the more they delayed taking any action, the more illegal immigrants poured across the border.
The problem has gotten so bad that even Democrat mayors and governors are complaining about the problem and demanding steps be taken to stop it.
Make no mistake, it wasn’t legal residents complaining or the mayors and governors of the border states demands for action that finally moved the administration to do something. It was Biden’s supporters complaining about it. Many of those officials demanding action aren’t just seeing how dealing with illegal immigrants is crippling their local economies, they are facing re-election this year and need to be shown as doing something to combat the problem.
He originally tried to pass off the duty of finding a solution to the problem to Vice President Kamala Harris, who couldn’t even be bothered to visit the border.
So, what’s Biden’s solution to the problem? It may sound familiar. He’s building the wall along the border.
“The Biden administration announced it waived 26 federal laws in South Texas to allow border wall construction Wednesday, marking the administration’s first use of a sweeping executive power employed often during the Trump presidency,” the Associated Press reported.
The Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act and Endangered Species Act are just some of the federal laws waived to allow for construction to begin as soon as possible.
This shows that the U.S. could have been three years into construction of a better southern border wall if the administration hadn’t dismissed former President Donald Trump’s idea simply because he proposed it. Of course, if the Trump Administration had tried waiving more than two dozen laws to start construction, the media and Democrats would have acted as if they had committed was crimes.
It was only two years ago that the Biden Administration declared, “building a massive wall that spans the entire southern border is not a serious policy solution.”
The announcement of new construction was made in the U.S. Federal Registry. It listed a few details about the construction, which will begin in Starr County, Texas. This is an area that is experiencing a lot of illegal immigrant traffic.
“There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas,” Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said in the notice.
Mayorkas is another official who has denied or ignored the problem up until now. Now, the U.S. needs the wall to prevent illegal immigrants.
Right now, it appears the new construction will run about 20 miles along the border. It won’t be enough, but it is a start. By way of comparison, 450 miles of border barriers were built during the Trump Administration.
