Law enforcement veteran Michael Letts discusses a recent comment by John Roberts that could turn the case in Trump’s favor.
Former President Donald Trump recently took a case to the Supreme Court in regards to his removal from Colorado’s state ballot. They noted they were invoking the 14thAmendment in terms of removing the former President, noting his reported corruption in the January 6th “insurrection.”
However, as decisions are still being made, Chief Justice John Roberts believes that the Colorado Voting Board doesn’t understand what they actually invoked.
“The whole point of the 14th Amendment was to restrict state power, right?” he asked in a recent statement. He believes Colorado is in “a position that is at war with the whole thrust of the 14th Amendment.” He feels that the Amendment was passed to hold back states’ rights and empower the federal government. But apparently, it’s “the last place you’d look for authorization for the states, including Confederate states, to enforce the Presidential election process.”
With that, does Trump have a case when it comes to being allowed on the ballot?
